Wiwynn Expands Texas Server Plant With Nearly 1,000 New Jobs

Amazon and Wiwynn announced an expansion of Wiwynn’s manufacturing operations in Socorro, Texas, on September 9, 2026, saying they expect to create nearly 1,000 new advanced manufacturing jobs by the end of 2027. Wiwynn president and CEO William Lin put the company’s investment in the Texas facility at over US$1.6 billion.

According to the announcement, Wiwynn’s continued investment supports growing customer demand and will bring total employment at the facility to over 2,500 next year, with further growth to 4,000 employees expected at full capacity. The El Paso-area site is Wiwynn’s first manufacturing location in the United States. Wiwynn, which its newsroom releases describe as a global cloud IT infrastructure provider listed in Taiwan under ticker 6669, manufactures and integrates server systems and racks supporting Amazon’s data center infrastructure and U.S. cloud capacity. Amazon characterized the facility as part of a broader effort to strengthen its supply chain by bringing production of custom hardware to the United States and building domestic capacity for its infrastructure needs.

Gary Szilagyi, Amazon vice president of Annapurna Labs, said Amazon’s investments in Texas have created more than 86,000 jobs across the state. “We’re proud to deliver cutting-edge chips as part of this investment, supporting the creation of nearly 1,000 advanced manufacturing roles that will help strengthen both the Texas and U.S. economies,” he said.

“Wiwynn’s new advanced manufacturing facility represents a major new chapter in our global manufacturing footprint and an important milestone for Amazon, Texas, and the entire U.S. supply chain,” Lin said. “Through our over $1.6 billion investment in the Texas facility, we are expanding our ability to address the growing demand of U.S. customers, reinforce the resilience of the global supply chain, and create high-value career opportunities as we continue to grow in partnership with the local community.”

Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Rick Switzer said in the announcement that the collaboration is an example of Taiwan’s commitment to invest $250 billion in advanced manufacturing in the United States.

Amazon’s announcement also states that since 2017, data center activity has grown U.S. manufacturing jobs by nearly 70% to over 200,000 jobs, citing the footnoted Economic Contributions of Data Centers in the United States studies.

Hiring and Training

At the Socorro facility, Wiwynn is hiring across manufacturing and industrial engineering, testing and automation, quality engineering, equipment maintenance, supply chain, and production operations, with the announcement noting that the roles include positions paying 30% above the local wage base. The company is working with the University of Texas at El Paso, New Mexico State University, El Paso Community College, and Western Technical College to build its talent pipeline.

Amazon (AMZN ) said more than 14,500 Texas employees have participated in its free skills-training initiatives since 2019. Its Career Choice program partners with 35 Texas educational institutions and prepays 100% of tuition for employees pursuing further education. In the coming months, Amazon plans to bring AWS’s Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing Certificate Course and an Information Infrastructure Pre-Apprenticeship (I2PA) to Texas; the I2PA is a paid pre-apprenticeship for job-seekers with little or no prior experience to launch skilled-trade careers related to cloud infrastructure.

Amazon’s Texas Presence and the Site’s 2025 Origins

Amazon reports that it has invested more than $100 billion in Texas since 2010, including infrastructure and employee compensation, and that those investments have contributed more than $110 billion to the Texas economy on top of the company’s direct spending. In addition to the 86,000 full- and part-time jobs created across the state, Amazon says its investments support more than 90,000 additional indirect jobs in fields including construction, hospitality, retail, and healthcare.

The City of Socorro announced Wiwynn’s manufacturing and distribution campus at the Socorro Logistics Centre Park on June 3, 2025, describing a $152 million investment that would create 514 new jobs and retain 35 regional positions, for a total of 549. The city put the average wage at $26.80 per hour plus benefits, against a median county wage of $17.31, and said the campus would span two industrial buildings covering over 866,000 square feet and produce cloud-based AI and edge computing servers.

According to the city, its council approved a Chapter 380 agreement offering up to $1.2 million in tax incentives; in return, Wiwynn committed to an initial investment of at least $92 million in personal property and building improvements and to ensuring at least 5% of newly created jobs go to Socorro residents. The 2025 announcement also noted that Socorro is home to U.S. Foreign Trade Zone No. 302.
